singapore_fitness_instructor_imgVick has always been a skinny teenager since his secondary school days. After all, after he was drafted into the school's basketball team, he felt he could maintain his slim physique and sail through life.

Everything changed when he had to uproot himself and move to the United States with his family. Thinking nothing much had changed, he auditioned for his high school basketball team in the US. But to his chagrin, he was severely outmatched when it came to both physical size and strength. Faced with the daunting prospects of not being able to continue his passion in sports and basketball, he started getting advice and did his own research to bulk up.

A few months later, armed with more confidence in both his physique and strength gains, not only did he make his high school’s basketball team, but the American football team as well! These sports place huge emphasis on overall strength, core conditioning, weight management, power building and explosiveness. His hard work and determination, combined with his physical gains had boosted his confidence, resulting in recognition and an even more positive outlook on life. 

From experiencing it first hand, Vick has now made it his mission to pay it forward to help others gain the physique that they desire to lead a better and healthier life. 

No longer a skinny boy when he was drafted into the army, Vick was commissioned as an officer of the Singapore Armed Forces and was posted to be an Instructor in Officer Cadet School (OCS). As a cadet and officer, he achieved the commando/guards gold standard repeatedly and held the record of 31 pull-ups within his Wing. Because of his achievements, he was subsequently appointed as the officer in charge of physical fitness and IPPT (Individual Physical Proficiency Test)

As the officer in charge of physical fitness, not only did he help the cadets improve their overall fitness, he also helped overweight cadets shed their extra kilos quickly and achieve a Silver standard in their IPPT. Throughout his term as an OCS instructor, Vick helped 70% of his wing achieve a Gold Standard in their IPPT. Also, as an individual milestone, he has taken part in long distance runs and marathons and was acknowledged as a 200km achiever in OCS within a span of 4 months.

Now, apart from working out in the gym, he does sports such as basketball and American football as means to keep fit and lead an active lifestyle.

With a strong background in competitive swimming for eight years and biathlon racing for two years, Ben has a solid foundation in the mental psyche, training methodology and body strengthening for people seeking personal training. Once a competitive swimmer, Ben won many accolades through his participation in the annual National School Championships and Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships. 

As testimony to his contributions to the swimming arena, Ben was awarded the South Zone Colours Award for swimming in 2004 and the Edusave Awards for Achievement, Good Leadership and Service (EAGLES) for excelling in sporting achievement, community work and academic results. One of Ben's most memorable moments in life must be his captaincy of the Raffles Junior College Swim Team where he led both the male and female 'A' Division swim teams to the championship trophy in 2007.

Ben's training motto 'train smart and hard' has been his linchpin mentality as he pursued his physical fitness interest throughout his competitive training period till date. He runs, swims and works out regularly as he views health and personal fitness as an essential part of everyday life.

Having participated in many endurance races, Ben has intimate knowledge sg_personal_trainer_imgon the requirements one's body needs on rest and recovery before and after a race or training session. Ever the meticulous person he is, Ben pays particular attention to proper nutrition, diet plan and calorie intake as he believes eating right is as important as resting enough and exercising regularly.

Having attained a Gold award in the Individual Proficiency Physical Test (IPPT) in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and going through Officer Cadet School (OCS) training, Ben knows the rigours of training under extreme conditions and how to excel through it all. Armed with competent knowledge of Individual Physical Proficiency Training (IPPT), his expertise lies in helping clients ace their IPPT.  A firm believer of setting high standards for himself, Zen recorded another milestone in his fitness journey when he achieved the Commando/Guards Gold standard in his IPPT. This attests to his effective training methods which he now uses to help his clients.

The Zen you see today is dramatically different from the one you would have known just a few years ago. Back then, he was overweight and had to battle the stigma of being obese with excess fat on his body. This was no doubt due to his inactivity and unhealthy eating habits. 

Having been the ridicule of the people around him, Zen made up his mind to do something for himself to attain that body he always wanted. Through sheer determination and visualisation of his end goals, he has successfully abandoned 
his past. More importantly, his own fitness journey has allowed him to develop a training programme that places dual emphasis on showing results yet having fun at the same time. 
 
Zen also took up rock-climbing during his junior college years. This extreme sport places strong emphasis on strength, power building as well as weight management. Under the guidance of national climbers cum trainers, Zen gained immense experience and knowledge on strength conditioning as well as how to build lean muscle mass. Zen's dedication and dynamism towards rock-climbing is unquestionable as he was placed fourth in a Singapore National Climbing Competition, narrowing missing out on the top 3 spots which were won by national climbers.

In order to spur himself on further, Zen entered the Mister Singapore 2009 pageant and was selected as one of the 15 semi-finalists. Having achieved what he once thought was impossible, he now wants to share his life story with others and help them achieve the body they desire.

A dedicated personal trainer, Zen strongly believes that a healthy transformation starts from striking a good balance between training and diet. Besides gym, Zen also counts rock climbing as one of his favourite pasttimes.
